The remnants of a decommissioned Civil War–era fortress give this park its name, but that is hardly all Fort Totten has to offer. The grounds are full of historic buildings, rolling fields, and even a public pool. There are special tours – the Halloween-themed haunted lantern tour is a must – and events year-round. As the park is on the far edge of the city, it offers a slice of quiet that is rare in NYC.
