January 21 will see the borders opening into Sri Lanka after being shut since March 2020 following the pandemic. The island nation is ready to welcome international travelers once again from January 21 after remaining closed for most of 2020. Due to the prevailing situation of the new strain of the virus, tourists from UK are currently restricted. For all other countries, strict guidelines need to be followed. A health declaration form, negative COVID 19 report and health insurance are necessary before arrival. There is no exception to those already vaccinated. Tourists can fly in via scheduled commercial flights and chartered or private jets with approval from the Civil Aviation authority.

There is no minimum stay period for the visit. Travelers can visit the attractions within the bio-bubble even on a short trip. If, however, they wish to interact with the local community or move to places other than those within the safety bubble, it is possible only after spending 14 days inside the bubble.

Specific time will be pre-allocated for sightseeing trips to the 14 approved tourist attractions within the safe bio-bubble. Yala, Udawalawe, Kaudulla and Wilpaththu National Parks, Sinharaja Forest Reserve, Ridiyagama Safari Park, Pinnawala Open Zoo, Whale Watching at Mirissa, Sigiriya Fortress and the Temple of Tooth Relic are among those on offer.
