Amrut Distilleries, the pioneers of the Indian Single Malt revolution and makers of iconic brands such as the Fusion, Spectrum, Naarangi and Amalgam have now ventured into the world of Craft Gins with their latest offering, the Nilgiris Indian Dry Gin. Handcrafted at the distillery in Bangalore in locally made copper pot stills, the gin is made with botanicals sourced from the hills of Nilgiris.

The name, Nilgiris, is inspired by the blue hills of Tamil Nadu since it was here that Amrut’s late Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. Neelakanta Rao Jagdale had conceived the idea of Nilgiris. His exploration of the region had led him to Doddabetta, the highest mountain of the Nilgiris range that is also home to the Government Medicinal Plant Development Area with numerous herbs from where many of the botanics are sourced.
The idea was not just to create a unique distill but also to create a profile that was unique to India. The use of Nilgiris tea and spices are a fitting representation of the rich flavors of the mountains have to offer including paan or betel leaves that act as a floral bridge between the flavours of the classic gin and the robustness of spices, while also adding a unique definition and character.
