North Hollywood (NoHo) was a down-on-its-heels neighborhood of artists, but thanks to redevelopment it now boasts some 20 stage theaters in 1 sq mile and a burgeoning community of galleries, restaurants and vintage-clothing stores around them.
It's situated at the end of both the Metro Red Line to Downtown LA and the Orange Line busway across the Valley.
