Teatro Romano

Accessible though the Museo Archeologico, this well-preserved Roman amphitheatre often hosts live performances during the summer; check with the museum or tourist office. The theatre, which was built in the 1st century BC, was the scene of a notorious episode in 1320 when 400 Guelphs (papal supporters) were imprisoned and killed here.
